Neurofunk vs. liquid and jump-up drum & bass

Neurofunk, liquid and jump-up are all drum & bass, but they differ most in mood, bass design and the role of melody.

Neurofunk is usually darker and more technical than liquid drum & bass, and more detailed in its sound design than jump-up. These styles overlap in tempo and drum language, but they offer different emotional and dancefloor experiences.

Neurofunk vs. liquid drum & bass

Liquid often foregrounds melody, musical warmth, vocals or soulful samples. Neurofunk generally puts synthetic bass movement, tension and precision drums at the centre, creating a colder and more mechanical feel.

Neurofunk vs. jump-up

Jump-up often prioritises immediately recognisable bass hooks and direct crowd impact. Neurofunk can be just as forceful, but its bass parts usually evolve through smaller changes in texture, rhythm and space.

Which style should I try?

If you want intricate sound design and darker energy, begin with neurofunk. Listen live on Neurofunk Radio or explore the guest-mix archive.
